Not in Denial: I'm a Clutz

I remember one of the first few dates with Ian, I tripped. Before he could ask if I was alright, I was already giggling uncontrollably. I told him I trip a lot so to not be surprised by it.

It certainly was a clue to him then that I am a clutz. I fall more often than the average person does. If I'm walking outside and there is a little difference between two slabs of concrete and one is a little higher than the other, my foot will inevitably catch it. My first day in Spain when I was studying abroad, we were sightseeing in Madrid with the entire group. Coming out of the train station up the steps, I completely bit it and ended up on all fours. I just can't help it.

But one area where I am not normally a clutzy is all the years I danced. On stage, I didn't trip, I didn't fall. Somehow I managed to avoid it. I also never had falling/tripping issues in all the years I played soccer.

This is all leading me to say - I think the clutziness is leaking into those areas that I was not normally a clutz. I have not made it through a freaking kickball game without falling! I can't move my feet quickly enough - it's like they won't keep up with my upper body.

What makes people trip more often than others? Am I doing something wrong? Did I learn how to walk and run incorrectly as a little girl and have been doing it wrong ever since? Is it because of my poor eye sight? Do I not pay attention well enough?

Luckily with all the practice, I don't get embarrassed from it very often. And Ian said he actually likes it about me - it's funny. Hey - at least I'm entertaining to be around - or embarrassing, I guess it depends on who you are. And don't even get me started on the falls I've had while being drunk!

Anyone Else?

Does anyone else think this is funny? Personally, I couldn't stop laughing my ass off.

It Probably was a Clue

Yesterday's biking fall may have been a clue that this week was going to be a rough one, or that I should stay home and avoid any pavement whatsoever.

On my walk to school today, 1 block from school, I entered the intersection to cross the street, in a crosswalk, while I had the white walk symbol, and a car turning didn't see me. It happened very quickly and my initial thought was that she wasn't going to stop. As I quickly moved to get out of the way, she braked and tires screeched as she came to a stop about 4 inches from my left side. She stayed stopped and rolled down her window and kept apologizing, all the while holding her cell phone up to her ear. After assuring her I was okay, my emotions ran high and I went off on her. In the middle of it, I burst into tears. Happy Tuesday to me.

What else is in store for me this week?

Hopefully the amount of work I have to do will keep me indoors, away from my broken bike and crazy drivers. Either that or I should walk around like the little boy in Little Giants who has his entire body padded to keep from getting hurt.

Clumsy

Today is the 2nd day that I've been back in non-flat shoes (yay!). Well - I guess my feet are just not used to it. As I am walking gracefully back to my desk from the bathroom, the heel slips on the recently shined tiles and I go flying forward onto all fours. What makes matters worse, is that our building is 10 floors, and I'm on the top where all of the executives sit. As I'm in slow motion starting the fall, I hear "ding" come from the elevators (I fell directly in front of them) and immediately think "uh-oh, what executive is about to witness this?" I quickly get up and readjust myself and glance around to see one of the execs who has a confused look on his face and says "Ummm, are you alright". Secretly, I was thinking that my foot was killing me and I didn't know if I could walk (not my ankle - thank goodness - I think my foot just hit the tiles hard), but giggled as I assured him I was fine and then walked away in horrible pain.

Ahhh - onto less embarrassing topics. Last night, I picked up my veil from Maggie's, picked up the bridesmaid gifts that arrived, and went to the mall to buy earrings for the big day. I found some that I like and snatched them! Here they are:

I have a makeup trial tonight and then we're heading to dinner at Pasta Plus with Stacy and Jon. We haven't seen those two in AGES so I'm pretty excited to catch up over some fine italian food.

Tomorrow, I am getting my hair did - color, cut, and trial for the wedding day. Essentially the whole works! Then tomorrow night we are doing dinner with Sarah and Carlton!

Sunday, I am heading to brunch with Emily.

Lots of plans this weekend with friends and wedding pampering! Also, trying to complete one of our projects this weekend - we'll see if we're able to fit that in!

AAA and Photo Post

I packed all of these little boxes of treats to take to work today and was late for work and flustered when I got here. I grabbed my purse, the bag with all of the treats, and walked into the building. I went to go out to grab something from Whole Foods for lunch, and no keys were found anywhere! Sure enough, they're hanging from the ignition in my car. I locking my keys in the car a lot when I first got my license. So instantly I felt like a kid again when I realized what I'd done. I called Ian and my mom to find a spare key - which is nowhere to be found either. AAA just got here and popped the lock so now I have my keys. On the bright side, it's the 3rd and not the 1st of January - that would've been a bad way to start 2008.

Last night, we went to a Wizards game. Ian and Alex have never seen a professional basketball game. Alex actually had never been to a U.S. professional sports game. I got box seats through one of our outside law firms. The guys had a fantastic time - and Alex took lots of videos to show everyone back in France. Apparently since Tony Parker is from France, the french have become very interested in the NBA. Anyways, it was a good time and here are some pictures:

I also forgot to mention that the guys went to look at tuxes while my brother was in town. Ian is waiting to decide on the specifics since Men's Warehouse is getting new tuxes. But, his idea is a 3-button black tux with no vest, only a tie (possibly suspenders as they are really in style right now). The groomsmen will wear black ties and Ian will wear a silver or white one.
