Dinner and a (Scary) Movie

As I've had a few days off from school, I've been getting back into cooking.  Two nights ago, I was in the mood for spaghetti bolognese.  I used this recipe by Emeril - and it was absolutely fantastic.  I would recommend if you're going to make it, cutting back on the cinnamon and nutmeg.  Otherwise, follow it to a T.

We also watched The Lovely Bones.  Before the movie even started, Ian said "why are we watching this?  you don't do well with scary movies."  I'm not really sure why I ever added it to our netflix queue - I think maybe because we had heard it was a good movie from someone.  Well - I hate having to admit this - but he was right.  I am SUCH a little girl when it comes to movies that have anything scary in them.  I closed my eyes through some of the parts.  The funny thing is - the movie isn't even that scary of a movie.  It just deals with a really creepy topic and character.  I was happy when it was over - wishing I had skipped seeing it all together, especially since I didn't even think it was that great of a movie.

We went to bed that night and when I woke up in the middle of the night to pee, I could not get out of bed.  I laid there, willing myself to get out of bed, to not be afraid.  Instead, I gently tapped Ian's shoulder, "honey - can you walk me to the bathroom? I'm scared from the movie."  Meanwhile, our bathroom is about 8 steps from our bed - but I have to pass the steps on the way because it's in the hallway.  Luckily, Ian just got out of bed and walked me there and waited and then walked me back.

I'm embarrassed to admit it...but I woke him again the following night to do the same thing.  I guess next time he'll make sure I don't watch scary movies so he doesn't have to get up with me in the middle of the night.  I'm surprised he wasn't more irritated at having to do this both nights in a row.  But I guess he knew what he was getting into when he married someone who is a weeny with scary movies.  But it's times like these that I think, I am one lucky lady.  Sorry honey!

  1. Hah! That sounds SO familiar... I am a huge weenie for scary stuff too. Even Law & Order gives me the heebie jeebies sometimes. Stanley Tucci was way scary in the Lovely Bones huh. What a jip and Mark Whalberg doesn't even take his shirt off. Go see Date Night with Tina Fey next time, you'll like that a lot better :)

  2. I'm kind of a weenie when it comes to scary movies too... although I didn't find "The Lovely Bones" that scary. It was def. creepy.

I think I just hated that movie so much... it ruined a FABULOUS book (seriously - if you haven't read it, I will lend you my copy. The book is amazing).

But I think it is super cute that you had Ian walk you to the bathroom! :-)

  3. I cannot watch anything scary. Rule in the house "No guns, scary scenes or shows that have music that sounds like something scary is about to happen after 9pm." Bones is the only exception!

If I do happen to watch something scary I usually hold the remote and FLIP away when I think something might be coming. Then I turn back when I think it's done and ask Jon what happened!!! He usually would like to kill me! Let's just say he watches his shows when I'm not around!

Also, I thought the book was good as well! I won't even see the movie because it would ruin what I read...
