Winter germs

Feeling much better today!  Thanks for your comments yesterday.  I have been hesitant to post that I see a therapist but I realized that while other people may not agree with it, it works for me, so who cares what people think?

Luca has had so many colds this winter.  More so than last winter, although this winter it has not resulted in any ear infections.  Thank you ear tubes - clearly they are doing their job.  This is the first winter that she is not getting breastmilk and I have been wondering if that makes a difference.  I joked with Ian that I should not have stopped pumping a year ago.  And if you are trying to calculate in your head how long I pumped, it was for about 1.5 years, and I had enough saved up in our freezer stash to ensure that she got a few ounces of breastmilk everyday for her first two years of life.

Because of said colds, it means I have come down with colds more times than I can count.  Somehow, Ian has escaped the colds on a few occasions.  Lucky bastard.

Please tell me this is normal, to pick up a ton of colds when your child is young?  I am going out of my mind with being sure to take my vitamins, drinking lots of water, getting sleep.  If you have been to my house, you know that I probably keep clorox and purell in business with the amount of clorox wipes and hand sanitizer we go through.  Yet it does not seem to be enough.

Do you get sick more often since having kids?  What do you do to stay healthy?

  1. Adrian and I were just discussing the same issue about Lucia and the number of colds she (and thus we) have gotten this year. It seems every 3-4 weeks she's sick. Last year she was on the boob and far less mobile so I'm assuming that's part of it. People have reassured me that this is how kids develop their immune systems, but good gracious I'm ready for spring!

    1. Same here! It must have something to do with breastmilk. Right? Well, as much as I wish she (and thus you) were not getting sick as often as we are, I am glad we are not the only ones. Misery loves company, right?

  3. Lynlee and the rest of us have been more sick this winter than we have ever... I'm not sure if it's because she is in "school" and around more kids or if it's just the terrible flu season this year. We all take vitamins and drink lots of water.. Well Lynlee and I do and it hasn't helped. Ryan's the only one that has only been sick once and I'm not sure he's ever taken a vitamin or drank water. HAHA. Maybe I need to rethink things :)
