Working My Butt Off

Well, I thoroughly enjoyed my boy-less evening. I decided to get chinese carryout (Ian dislikes it so we don't eat it often. I on the other hand, love me some good chinese food). And, as exciting as I know this sounds, I washed our sheets and put clean ones on. While I can't say I enjoy taking the sheets off or remaking the bed, the feeling of getting into bed with clean sheets is slightly orgasmic. I then watched (and sang) while watching American Idol. I loved every minute of it.

I woke up early this morning to go to the gym. I get there and sure enough, these two crazy workout girls are there. Our gym is part of our complex and is tiny - two treadmills, two ellipticals, 2 bikes and a universal weight system. It also means that it's never busy. The most people at any one given time that I've seen is a big whopping 4. So I've been going to the gym religiously at least 5 days a week for about 6 weeks now. I see the two crazy workout girls there a few times per week. Girl 1 is very thin and petite and runs about 4.5 miles in 40 minutes - with her fleece still on, and she barely looks dewey after the run. I am all about being healthy and fit and athletic, but COME ON. I hate people like that. You see for me, the idea of running 40 minutes straight is foreign to me. I have asthma, so for me to run, I have to run for a couple minutes then walk for a couple minutes and alternate. I would love to be able to do that! But for me, even with the way I do it (alternating running and speed walking - and I mean majorly speed walking), I sweat like a pig to the point that sweat drips from my nose and chin, my face gets beet red and my hair frizzes as if I've been shocked. She doesn't even break a sweat. To make it worse, I then leave the gym about 20 minutes after she's left and I'm walking home and who comes flying past me running, HER, AGAIN still running! Freak.

Girl 2 is about 5'9" and looks a bit like a giraffe she's so thin. Her legs are very lean and a little too muscly in my humble opinion. I don't really know how to describe what she does - she rides the bike for about 20 minutes and then the precor elliptical thingy for over 30. I think it's the way she uses the elliptical that annoys me - she stays on her toes for half of it as to only work her calf muscles. Is it just me or do you find that odd? She also then turns her knees inward and bends her knees and stays like that for a few minutes. I guess I shouldn't judge because both Girl 1 and 2 are in better shape than me. However, it's people like them that intimidate the crap out of me at the gym. I always think they're thinking "it's a good thing that girls here - she needs it".

But instead of looking and letting them annoy me (which I'm sure they will continue to do), I will use them as my inspiration to keep working my butt off (hopefully literally).

  2. Ha! I always let people like that motivate me. My thought is, "Oh hell to the no! She didn't just look ME up and down. I'll show her and push myself harder."

    Its crazy but fun!
