Honeymoon Destination Ideas

Tonight, we are meeting with a possible Day-of-Coordinator from Cherry Blossom. I will let you know how it goes. My mom is coming with us because I'm not exactly sure what I should be asking them. I already know what's included in the package and how much it costs. For me, it's more of test to see if I click (because really, how much is Ian going to be talking to this person?!) with this person and know if they get our "vision" for the wedding.

So, the title of the post is where I'm going with today's post. We have come up with many ideas so I'll list them out - vote, give us more ideas, tell us some wonderful places!

  • Hawaii: I LOVED Hawaii when I went there as my college graduation present with my mom and brother. I found it incredibly romantic and there is plenty to do there in case we want to venture out to sightsee a bit. Our issue with Hawaii is that I've been there already - we both kind of want to go to some place neither of us has been. Also, it's not a very unique place to go.
  • Greece: Neither of us have been to Greece and we both find the idea quite appealing. I've heard amazing stories and Santorini has been recommended as an incredible island to visit for a honeymoon. However, I quickly looked up prices just for flights to Greece and they were about $1800 per person - yikes! I've been told that we're probably too far away from the dates which is why the prices are outrageous, and that most likely the prices will drop.
  • St. Thomas/Caribbean: Again - I LOVED St. Thomas when I went there with my family while on a cruise. But I've been there before. We also feel that since we only get one honeymoon, that we should go some place that is further, and go to a place that we normally wouldn't be able to go to. Same goes for other islands in the Caribbean. What is a less crowded or less touristy island in the Caribbean?
  • Tenerife: This is part of the Canary Islands which are part of Spain. I visited there while I was studying in Spain. It kind of reminded me of Hawaii. Same problem - I've been there! Also , we are interested in going some place to relax, lay around and do nothing, but be able to go shopping or sightseeing for a day or two if we want. Tenerife doesn't have a whole lot to do except stay at the resort.
  • Italy: Too much sightseeing to do here! But I'd LOVE to visit all over Italy. Ian has already been down that road.

So that's our list of ideas thus far. I would love to do France, but Ian lived there for 10 years so it's not all that exciting for him. Although he never stayed in Paris so I would love to go there for a couple nights if we are going somewhere in Europe for our honeymoon! Any other ideas?

  2. Marideth & Trenton just came back from Punta Cana (sp?) in the Dominican (I think Jeremy and Kim went there too, but for a vacation). They said it was gorgeous - I can't remember the name of the travel place they booked through. I think it was fairly reasonable.

Also, Aruba is really nice and not in the hurricane path! I've been there and LOVED it! The snorkeling was awesome!

  3. I vote for Europe. We had an amazing time on our honeymoon...and had the same concerns that you did. We wanted to go somewhere we hadn't been before, as well as somewhere that there was a lot to do..but that we could relax. We ended up going to one city (paris) where we had been before (not together) and then a week of new places...it was the perfect mix. I say you go to Greece! If you watch Kayak.com, you can find a good deal, you'll just have to keep and eye on it!

  4. Here are my thoughts on a honeymoon. Ahem...

    1) This is your chance to go somewhere absolutely crazy! Most people have difficulty wanting to plunk down a lot of money for a vacation... but this is your chance to be totally selfish. You're newlyweds!

    2) Don't go somewhere you've already been to. I think if I went somewhere where Jeremy has already been (and that's not difficult), it would have been a little lackluster for me.

    And now onto destinations...
    - Greece! I say go for it. If its what you want, its worth the money.
    - Fiji
    - Tahiti
    - The Maldives (I'm a little biased here)
    - Paris! (We're going this summer)
    - Dubai
    - Thailand
