Honeymoon Fun-ness
2 nights in Athens staying at Electra Palace Hotel Athens Electra Palace Hotel Athens where our room will have a view of the Acropolis. It's a perfect location so that we can walk just about everywhere for sightseeing, food, shopping, etc. After 2 days of sightseeing and getting used to the time difference, we're off to:
3 nights in Heraklion (a city in Crete) staying at Elounda Beach. We will have one of the bungalows that walks right out onto the beach. This will be the start of the lay on the beach and relax part of our honeymoon! Then, we will drive to the other side of Crete for:
4 nights in Chania staying at the Minoa Palace. This is a bigger resort and apparently you don't have to leave the resort for anything - you can eat, sleep and relax right there.
After getting tan (okay maybe not me so much) we will head back to Athens for one more day and night at Electra before our flight home the next afternoon.
I'm counting the days:)

Bullets
I'm all over the place today. I have to bullet it up to make this mish-mosh have some sense.
Movie Review:
- Simpsons movie: Prior to watching this movie, I had never watched an entire Simpsons episode. I know, something must be wrong with me, I was deprived, whatever. Because of this, I really wanted to watch the entire movie so I could understand what it's all about. Well, I fell asleep about 15 minute before the movie was over and when I woke up the next morning, Ian had already sealed the movie back up to ship it. Jerk! I couldn't believe it. He just assumed I didn't want to see the rest since I had fallen asleep. Actually, it's because we're wedding planning and I'm running around like a crazy woman getting everything done - I'm tired, I can't help but fall asleep sometimes. Anyways, from the part I did see, I liked it.
- The Talented Mr. Ripley: I have always heard that this is a great movie. Well it was! It was disturbing, intriguing and entertaining all in one. Certainly worthwhile to see. And Jude is a hottie in this movie!
Weekend Highlights:
- Went to the eye doctor for a screening for glaucoma (my grandma had it which makes me a suspect) and my eyes are perfectly fine.
- Selected our readings for the ceremony and selected our music for the bridesmaids entrance, my entrance, and our exit.
- My future hubby showed his support of my health kick by ordering me these new running shoes!! I love shoes - even running shoes. They make me happy.
- Celebrated Lisa's 25th birthday in Baltimore. Here's a picture of a few of us with the birthday girl - today is her big day so Happy Birthday Lis! We have plenty of stories behind our night out, including a stripper (who you'd never in a million years suspect to be) was in line in front of us pulling her pants down to show everyone her new tattoo on her cheek that says "Made in Korea", or the girl in line that asked a girl in our group to unbutton her jacket so she could see her boobs, ahhhh the class of power plant bars. A guy actually asked his girlfriend to marry him on stage at Howl at the Moon. It was quite a night!
- Ian bought his groomsmen their gifts and I have to say the idea is quite fun.
- I bought my bridesmaids part of their gifts. I still have one more thing to get each of them.
Speaking of ceremony music, I'm having issues figuring out the regular music for the ceremony. If you are Catholic and know of songs or have had to do this, recommend some for different parts of the ceremony! We already have my entrance song, our exit song, and some songs for the bridesmaids entrance and prior to the ceremony music (for when people are just walking in). It's a Catholic mass but somehow when it came time to picking out music, I can't even remember all the different parts of the mass where I'll need music. And are there guidelines to the music I pick?
And in order to not jinx myself, I will not name the videographer that I just sent a check to. I don't want to hear that we've been dropped again so I'll just wait to tell you about it once we receive confirmation.
I'm crossing more and more off our list which means I'm starting the week off as one happy lady.

This is why I hired a coodinator
I have to first tell you that late Wednesday night I got an email from my fantastic coordinators. They read my blog and saw what a bad day I'd had and wanted to check in to offer some suggestions. THEY ROCK! I immediately turned to Ian and said "see- that's why I hired them!".
Despite a certain company bailing on me, I think we have found a videographer that we'll go with. I'm working on the contract now and then fingers crossed that task can be off my list once again!
Last night, I met Annie in Friendship Heights for a little browsing for wedding shoes (and a little browsing for other shoes as well ha). Didn't have much luck but at least we started the process, and I was in much need of some girl time. It was perfect!
I think we're moving forward with everything as planned and I'm hoping the next four months will go smoothly with the fam.
Tomorrow I think we'll visit one more jeweler to look at rings and then we need to decide which one we're going with and order them. Tomorrow night we are driving up to Baltimore to celebrate Lisa's 25th birthday. Otherwise, I am happy to say we do not have a busy weekend! I think we'll try to plan our ceremony this weekend and start putting together some ideas for table numbers and holders.
Have a great weekend!

Bad Day
2nd bad piece of news - our videographer, Well Spun Weddings cancelled on us, and instead of calling to let me know, emailed us instead. They explained that another client who had inquired into their services months ago and they hadn't heard anything from sent a contract the same time as me. I AM FURIOUS with this company. I emailed this company on February 11th asking for the contract and saying we're moving forward with your company- hooray. I signed and sent the contract out THAT DAY to ensure I wouldn't run into any competition. I just spoke with them and honestly their excuses are lame. They said that even though I had emailed and sent my check in, that they had to drop my wedding because this other client had inquired into their services before me. WHAT?! I'm sorry - I do believe that whoever confirms your services should be kept, not the one that didn't get back to you for months and sent it at the exact time as I did. In addition, they received my contract and check over a week ago. If they are a supposed courteous company, they shouldn't have sat on their asses for a week wasting MY time. I hope they are one of the vendors who search their names and come to my blog - stupid assholes.
And for those of you who have never read this blog - I don't believe I've ever cursed on here. It just goes to show you how pissed I am. And to anyone thinking of hiring this company, think otherwise as they are not reliable and not an honest company. I honestly think they may have chosen the other client over us because they were paying more. Not sure - but either way, I am glad we're not going to have to work with such fuckers.
Back to looking for videographers:(

Bad Luck?
- Dropped off my car to be fixed for the 3rd time. The manager agreed to give me great discounts because of it, plus they did an oil change for free. Glad it's all done!
- Grocery shopping
- Looked at invitations at Creative Parties in Bethesda. I was excited to go in and sit and look at invitations but one of the women who worked there was extremely snotty and not helpful at all. We decided that we wouldn't go with this store because of this bad experience.
- Cake tasting at Cakes in Style in Rockville. The cake was delicious! We each tried chocolate with a rich chocolate filling, tiramisu, red velvet, and my personal favorite, strawberry shortcake. We both normally don't like red velvet but loved theirs! Lucy is from Brazil and is the cutest woman. She is extremely talented in her designs as well. The estimate is extremely reasonable. Most stores charge to do more than one flavor, but she is allowing us to do whatever we want. Looks like we'll be going with strawberry shortcake and a chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream frosting. I'm waiting to meet with one other bakery but unless their prices or cakes blow this place out of the water, we are very happy with going with this bakery.
Sunday
- Invitations at An Elegant Invite. We picked our invitations and once we have our tasting we can add the entree choices on the response card language and then we're ready to order them! It dawned on me while sitting with Melanie that we aren't supposed to have our tasting with the hotel until 3 months before the wedding. EEK! I already emailed our hotel coordinator to say we need to bump it up to this week. I don't know what they were thinking when they picked that time period to do the tasting.
- Cake tasting at Custom Cake Design's open house in Gaithersburg. The cake was okay. I just felt like it didn't blow me away. The price is a bit higher than Cakes in Style and the majority of the displayed designs seemed a bit old fashioned for us. We also rather give the business to a smaller bakery.
- Ring searching at Mervis. Jeanne was our sales helper and she was fantastic. We didn't find anything new that we liked, and my wedding band is about the same price there as it was at Charleston Alexander. However, Ian's band was a lot less expensive. We'll go look at a couple more jewelers and then order with whoever has the best price.
I also had a scare with my engagement ring - it looked like it had cracked or chipped or been scratched. We rushed to Charleston Alexander who helped us right away and it turned out to be dirt. Apparently putting lotion on while wearing the ring is not the best idea. They were very helpful and put me at ease!
It was a very busy weekend but I'm excited to say that the invitations are done (well not ordered yet but we don't have to look any further), and that we are almost done with the cake! YAY! That would mean that vendors are DONE!!!!!!!!!!
While we were at the tasting yesterday, we came across a cake topper. I personall was standing laughing at it thinking who would ever have that as a serious cake topper, when I noticed that Ian was being serious about liking in. He would like to have this:

While I don't mind having something humorous as our cake topper, I don't think this is quite the humor I was going for.
The title of the post is related to whether we should see eachother before the ceremony on our wedding day. We started discussing it on Saturday, and while I had previously been EXTREMELY opposed to the idea (and I don't think I can stress enough how adament I was about NOT seeing eachother before the ceremony), I started thinking that it might not be a bad idea. It's not because I think it's bad luck. The history is that back when the father and future husband arranged the marriage, they wouldn't allow the hubby to see his future wife until she entered the chapel for fear that he wouldn't like what he saw and he'd want to back out. Obviously, times have changed. I don't think it's bad luck to see eachother.
I am naturally a very nervous, anxious person, so I can only imagine how anxious I'm going to be on our wedding day. I also want the first time we see eachother all spiffed up to be extremely special. How special, intimate can it be with 150 people staring at us? I almost think it would be much more special, and make us a little less anxious for the ceremony if we do this before the ceremony. What are your thoughts? I am totally on the fence on this one. I think there is something so special about seeing eachother for the first time as I walk down the aisle as well. Did you see your hubby before the ceremony? If not, why? If you did see eachother, share your story about how you made that "moment" special. And if you haven't walked down the aisle yet, what do you think you will decide?

A Trip Down Memory Lane

I am the one in the back right with my hair up and I'm wearing a tank top. This picture made me a bit ill - look at the elegant skinny arms, little bust and skinny (okay maybe a little bony) upper body! My coworker just came by and I was instantly like, omigosh I was so skinny then. But then she reminded me - do you see the high school girls and how little girlish they look these days? Do you really want to look like that? She said I look a lot better now than I did then.
That gets me thinking. Our bodies go through so many changes depending on the stage in life. I think women especially get fixated on how they used to look. If you're like me, you think that high school was just a little while ago. We all think, if only I could fit into my favorite pair of jeans that used to fit me, or I was so much prettier when I weighed (insert some amount of weight here) less.
Our bodies all change for various reasons. Most likely, we had a lot more time to spend exercising as kids, and many kids take part in activities and sports that naturally help you stay fit. THAT was our job back then - to have fun in those activities. Now, we all have responsibilities and jobs (most of us unlucky folks, desk-jobs). To not expect that our bodies would change with such lifestyle changes is naive in some respect, as if expecting that your body won't change or you won't gain wait when you're pregnant.
So what do I want - to be so skinny again and be back in that stage in life? Not in a million years. Now, I don't want you to think that I hated my teenage years of innocent love and most weekends filled with all-girls activities - most likely obsessing about some innocent love. I love the friends I made during the years and many of the people and experiences during that time have helped shape me into the person I am today. But I've grown up, experienced new things, and am still experiencing things. So although my initial reaction was, holy hell I should put this on my refrigerator to help encourage me to get back to being that skinny, I can't really say that'd I'd want to be back there. I love who I'm with, what I do, and where we all are going.
That being said, I'm still on my getting-in-shape kick. I'm loving it - not because I look forward to ever looking like I did back then, but because it's a good thing in general. It puts me in a good mood and makes me feel like I'm taking time for me, and taking care of myself. I don't think I'd want to trade that even to look like that girl I can barely recognize in the picture.

A little humor...

I normally am not a huge valentine's day person. We're eating at home tonight - yay for takeout. Last year, I got an idea from Kim but was too late to order it. So this year, I ordered the following book and filled the entire thing out for Ian. I gave it to him this morning and I hope he likes it - it took friggin forevaaa (it's about 80 pages of things you love about your s.o., memories, etc.).

So even though I might do a little something for Ian on v-day, I am still not all crazy about it. I really could care less if Ian didn't get me anything. I would rather him save it and surprised me with something on an ordinary day. However, getting this at work today certainly makes me think twice about not loving today (please excuse the messy desk area!):
I love my future hubby.

Okay - after reading through this list, this is where my breath starts quickening, I start feeling light-headed and my hand starts dialing the numbers to my fiance so that I can say, why don't we just get hitched in Vegas?!
Some of the things on the list are super little. And I also remind myself that I love crossing things off of my list. Making this list motivates me to get moving! We're already working on the cake tastings and about to finalize our flowers/florist - it's all a work in progress.
In the meantime, I've been searching for good ideas for attendant gifts. Have you received something really perfect that you appreciated? Did you give your attendants something that you were super excited about? I don't necessarily feel like I need to get each of them the same thing. I've been thinking about specializing it so that I get something that means something to each person.
Last night, Ian and I went to Normandie Farm Restaurant in Potomac to meet with someone and see the space as a possible rehearsal dinner location. We ate there as well to try out the food. I had been there quite a few times growing up but couldn't remember it for the life of me. The food was pretty good and we liked the space, not to mention that the price is right. I don't think we'll be spinning the wheel one more time, which means I may be crossing more off of the list soon!

The Groomsmen
PS - Ian and I have this thing we refer to as our "top-5" - meaning I have a list of my top-5 male celebrities that I find good looking, and I also have a list of top-5 female celebrities I find attractive in some way. Same goes for Ian - 5 guys and 5 ladies. He mentioned that Ed Burns might make his top-5 men. Really?? Anyone else agree. And do you have something like this with your bf/gf/significant other where you have top lists?
Do I really look 21?
I'm still doing really well with my get-fit goal. Saturday, after working out, I packed and headed to UVA to visit my friend Katie (I call her Lewis). She is one of my fabulous bridesmaids and is an amazing girl. We had a blast catching up on life, having "remember when" conversations about Spain, living together, and gossip about old and new friends.
We started off hitting up some stores for a little shopping. We stopped by Think Rock Paper Scissors where I looked at some cute wedding invitations. Saturday night, we ate at this adorable tapas restaurant, Mas, and ordered Spanish tortilla, spinach salad, patatas bravas and dates with bacon. It was delicious!
We then headed to Three (can't find any website) where we played some pool with one of her friends and this random sketchy guy. He totally leaned in the corner and poured a/some pill(s) into his hand and took them all secretly. My drink had been sitting near him so I quickly ordered a new one for fear he'd roofie me! I'm paranoid like that! This sketch ball also asked how I think he looked. I told him 28 (which he is). Lewis asked him how old she looked - he said 24 (she is). I then asked how old I look - he replied 21, but knew I must be older because he knew I was getting married (saw the ring). 21?! Really?? Do I really look that young? It's funny, I was somewhat offended by this. But then I remind myself that in 20 years if I can pass for being younger than I really am, SCORE!
Yesterday, we woke up and grabbed some food and sat on the steps of the campus and looked out over the lawn. The campus is beautiful! I really fell in love with this town - so quaint and homey.
Here are some pictures from our fun weekend!
I look pregnant in this picture - bad angle!

Do we really need this piece of paper?
- Once: I didn't think I was going to like this movie based on the short plot written about it on Netflix. But we both really liked it! They really need to update the review on it because the review sounds very odd compared to the movie. I was slightly upset with the end of the movie, but otherwise thought it was totally worth-while to see!
- Murderball: We both loved this documentary. It is less about the sport than it is about living as a paraplegic. These guys in it are inspirational. It answered a ton of misconceptions people might have about paraplegics and showed that although these people have faced tragedy, that their lives go on as long as they have the will to make it that way. They are normal people. And it also the answers the common question of whether paraplegics can be sexually active. I admit that I have thought about the answer to that question a few times. It's one of those questions nobody wants to admit that they wonder about - but you know you have as well! You'll have to watch it to see the answer.
Yesterday, I had to go to the county courthouse to get a document authenticated for work. But since it was in the same room as where you apply for marriage licenses, I killed two birds with one stone. As I was waiting for my number to be called, I was amazed at how many 18 year old couples came in and picked up the information on marriage licenses. I counted 3 while I waited for 5 minutes! On top of that, there was a middle-aged couple there filling out forms and then they sat and waited for their names to be called. The guy ended up sharing that they were getting married then - at 3pm on a Thursday afternoon at the courthouse.
I've always known that people get married at the courthouse. But seeing it just made me so curious. Why do people choose to be married there over somewhere else? Don't they have ANYONE that they want to witness their union? Nobody was even there with them. The guy said to me "Let me ask you a question. Don't you think it's stupid, after being together for 10 years, to need a piece of paper?"
How do I respond to that??? I am there to get my own license -I then begin wondering - what is it about this piece of paper? Well, it's not really the piece of paper that makes all the difference in the world. It's making that committment because you realize that you don't want to be without this person through your daily life, the good, the bad, the ugly, and the amazing times. The piece of paper just comes along with making that committment. I want that piece of paper! His lady responded "Fine if you don't want to do this then we'll just go home." Their interaction reminded me of a bicker a couple might have over waiting in line to be seated at a restaurant - not to be married! He turned and asked - "are you married?" - well, I'm about to be! He just laughed.
So after getting our marriage license (because I am someone that wants that piece of paper), I met up with Annie and Lisa for happy hour at McCormick & Schmicks in Bethesda. If you haven't been there for happy hour - you should totally go. You can get their regular 1/2 lb cheeseburger with fries for $1.95. $1.95 - can you believe that?! I got the seared tuna and cucumber salad appetizer - for $3.95. Seriously they have the best deals. Annie called it the best little secret in Bethesda - and it's truly that! We had a fantastic time gossiping about friends, family, wedding drama and boyfriends. It was fabulous!
I am also happy to report that we have decided to book Well Spun Weddings as our videographer. We decided on this company because we like their style and they were less expensive than our other option. I also signed us up for pre-cana classes in March. We have to go to a center from 9-6, two Saturdays in a row. Oh joy! It actually should be interesting. Ian is a bit more worried about it than I am (as he isn't Catholic, and also wasn't really raised practicing).
As for this weekend, I am having a date night with the boy tonight. Then, tomorrow I am heading to UVA to visit Lewis! I'm sure I'll come back with pictures and some stories of adventures!

Cutting It Close

So it's hard to see in this picture because there's a lot going on in it. But the center section is the entire package. On the right hand side of the invitation, each of the cards line up to create that scroll. The cards include accomodations, response card, map, and something else (I forget). They have just pulled those cards out and put them all around the card to let you see all of them. The top left portion is what the front of the invitations look like. You like? I really love the look of them, but am worried that they are too "fun" and since we're going for a formal wedding, maybe we need them to be a bit, um, formal?
I woke up at 4:30am this morning with a terrible stomach ache. As I was laying there, I suddenly had this panick - ummm, it takes about 6-8 weeks for the invitations to come in, and we're only 4.5 months away from the wedding. The invitations have to go out earlier than normal because of the international guests. I THINK we're a little tight on time which means I need to get the invitations ordered ASAP! I was in such a panick that I almost woke the boy up to tell him, but figured that wouldn't really help the situation and there was nothing we could do at that minute anyways.
I think this middle-of-the-night-panick has lead me to panick today. We're only 4.5 months away and I still feel like I have SO much to do!! AHHH! I believe that this panicky feeling is completely normal - but holy moly, I'm not a fan.
Kim - thanks for the opinion on the videos! I need more opinions people - I'm indecisive on this one!

Great Customer Service
I am also happy to report that my mom has helped us narrow down our videographer choices to Well Spun Weddings and Atlantis-Imagery. Please give your opinion! Check out their samples and let me know which one you prefer. Ian and I will be looking at them tonight to try to make our final decision. The styles are quite different from one another. The first one has more of a home-video feel, almost movie like which we like. The 2nd one is more typical of wedding videos. I need your opinion!
We are deciding on our florist this week. Yay! After we book the florist and videographer, we need to finish doing cake tastings and then order our invitations. Then it's onto the details!

My Body Hurts
Saturday, we went to look at wedding bands. Mine will look a little like this:

And Ian's will look a little like this:
We didn't purchase them yet because we're going to look around to make sure we get the best prices.
Saturday night we went to Old Angler's Inn to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday. The restaurant took part in Bethesda's restaurant week and we tried some very good food. Many of their items are incredibly overpriced (NY Strip is $46!!), so I was happy we got to try some yummy food at a more reasonable price. Here is a picture of the three of us:
I'd also like to Congratulate Juan and Lauren - they got married in October 2006 and are expecting their first baby. This is the first of my friends to start a family and it feels weird! And my mom is probably jealous of their parents right now as she cannot wait to have grandkids. I'm also pretty sure that I got her hopes up even more as she saw me hold a little newborn of our family friend at the Superbowl party yesterday. Mom - don't keep wishing for grandbabies. It's not happening anytime soon!
How was everyone's weekend? Anything fun for the Superbowl?

"We're going to Miami, Bienvenidos a Miami" - Maybe?
My mom met with DaVinci Florist a couple nights ago and was very pleased with their work. The great this about this florist was that while going through the ideas and flowers they had in mind based on pictures I like, they came up with a more expensive option, and a cheaper option. They are really willing to work with different price ranges. Well, their more expensive flower choices look like they'll come in about $600 cheaper than the other two florists - which would put us in under budget for flowers. Under budget makes me oh-so-happy:)
We are starting to schedule cake tastings. This is one part of the planning that Ian refuses to miss out on! We know pretty much what we want so it's just finding the cake we think tastes best and who is the most reasonably priced.
News on the law school front: I was offered a substantial scholarship from U. Miami. As of right now, I've gotten into 6 of the 7 schools and Miami is my first choice. This could all change as I hear from more schools, but I would think that Miami would still be one of my top choices because of the scholarship. I am most likely heading down there for a three day weekend at the end of March to visit and look at areas to live. It's hard to believe that we could be moving that far away in August. Although, I think Miami is a highlight for friends that might want to come visit! I'll keep you updated:)
